Meet Shanon

My name is Shanon and I live in the West End neighborhood. Rather than a job, my professional love is bringing kindness and love to social change. I am a mentor to change-makers, social change consultant, and part-time Lancaster Education Foundation Executive Director.

Shanon with Corey

I grew up in Mifflin County, PA, and moved to Lancaster more than 15 years ago. The communication and political science departments at Millersville University brought me to the area. When I was 8 years old I won an award for a poster I drew featuring factories with smoke blowing out of them forming the words "Cork It." That launched my efforts to to make the world a better place.

I believe in being yourself, laws of attraction, karma and the power of love. I enjoy walking my dog around town, venturing to market in the early hours and basking in the glow of a good coffee or beer with my husband.

Three people now living I would like to have lunch with: Jay-Z, Alexander McQueen, and my dad.

The cause I most believe in is: The Intersection of Equality and Education

Name three things on your bucket list: Grow a passive income business based on my values; inspire kids to be themselves their entire lives; Live to be 100

What did you want to be when you grew up? Age 8: Environmental Lobbyist who designed my own clothing and house

My greatest accomplishment is... Meeting my soul mate early in life

My unfulfilled ambition is... to master my personal yoga practice.

Three words to describe me are... aware, connector, huggable

Tell us something about you that most people don't know. I love silence.

What do you think Lancaster will be like in ten years? I think we'll have a top notch public school district, more art on the walls and music in the street, a terrific dog park and more home/community gardens. On my wish list are bike lanes, flat sidewalks and more green spaces.

Housemate Salem.

What do you consider to be Lancaster City's greatest asset? A Community Herbalist, Sarah Preston, Co-owner of Radiance.

Grabbing a bite in Lancaster with - $5, $10, $30 - Where (and what):

$5 - At Brisas del Caribe (407 East King Street) I would have Jamaican patty and rice.

$10 - Pizza or zucchini sticks at the Spring House Tap Room or Antonio's Pizza.

$30 - At Pour I would have meats, cheeses, duck fat fries and the bar manager's recommendation for beer.

What are the best aspects of your job? As a Mentor to Change Makers and Social Change Consultant, I have the honor of working with clients committed to making personal changes to help other people. As a public education advocate, I get to make connections in the community that benefit kids.

Would you describe yourself as introverted or extroverted? I know I'm introverted.

What is your coffee shop drink of choice? Dark roast with raw honey

What music are you listening to now? Nothing specific. I'm a Pandora fan and rotate through a variety of self-created stations.

Best advice from your parents... Everything will be okay as long as there is one kind and caring person. You are that person.

What should they have taught you in school but didn't? To be myself. Always.

If there is one thing life has taught me it is... Listening is an art form worth mastering.
