J.P. McCaskey (MWS)


J.P. McCaskey Highschool

Located at 445 Reservoir Street (West Campus) and 1051 Lehigh Avenue (East Campus), J.P. McCaskey Highschool serves students from both Lancaster City and Lancaster Township. This school is also home to the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program and offers more advanced placement courses than all of the county public schools combined.

Abraham Lincoln Middle School

This school, located at 1001 Lehigh Avenue, was named for the 16th President of the United States.

Wickersham Elementary School

Located at 401 North Reservoir Street, our school was named for a leader in public education. James Pyle Wickersham was the first county superintendent of Lancaster County in 1854. James Pyle Wickersham opened the normal school in Millersville, Pennsylvania which would eventually become Millersville University. He became the State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1866. Mr. Wickersham helped to organize the Pennsylvania State Teachers Association and assisted with the organization of the National Educational Association. He served the United States as a minister to Denmark in 1882.

Burrowes Elementary School

Located at 1001 East Orange Street, this school is named for Thomas H. Burrowes, who was well-known for his work in education at the local and state level. He was Pennsylvania's state superintendent of public instruction from 1835 to 1838 and again from 1860 to 1863. He organized the Common School System of Pennsylvania when he was Secretary of the Commonwealth (1835-1838), wrote the State Normal School Law, organized the Soldiers' Orphans School System and founded the Pennsylvania School Journal. He was also mayor of Lancaster and a 25-year member of the Lancaster City School Board.
